Even though Adrian would love a couple of Saint Bernards or Dachshunds he has compromised by giving me exactly what I want – two little kittens. I am super excited. I now have four large boxes from the ever-generous Internet that contain all the food and equipment to make our house cat friendly, including a kitty back-pack to bring them home on the train. As they will be living on the 11th floor, they will not have access to any actual trees, but I hope that this structure will suffice:

I am in contact with a Chartreux breeder near Charleroi using Google Translate as my intermediary. If Google is correct, the breeder has two female kittens who are currently nine weeks old, and we can go and pick them up in three weeks and bring them home. I may be visiting them this weekend to make my reservation. So now Adrian and I are currently working on potential cat names. He has vetoed names derived from television or movies, and technically Chartreux kittens born in 2009 should start their names with ‘E’. The naming of cats is a difficult matter. This is my current list:

Blauwe Kat and Kattebelletje
Pepper and Mint
Socks and Mittens
Misha-Penguin and Misha-non-Penguin
Hopscotch and Peppermint Whiskers
Moppet and Mittens
Smudge and Sage
Pickles and Pattycakes
Dot and Dash
Hocus and Pocus
Buttercup and Daisy
Midge and Middles
Medley and Mopsy
Bubbles and Buttons
Puddles and Pumpkin
Stardust and Teapot

We haven’t seen our little ones yet, but they should look something like this:

  1. “E” names:
    Enid & Emily
    Elizabeth & Elbereth
    Emo & Epic
    Eir & Elli
    Enyo & Eshara

    Maybe that helps?

  2. Thank-you. I’ll add them to the list.

  3. I’d be okay with these:

    Blauwe Kat and Kattebelletje
    Pepper and Mint
    Socks and Mittens
    Misha-pengiun and Misha-non-Penguin
    Hopscotch and Peppermint Whiskers
    Stardust and Teapot

  4. Except you spelt penguin wrong.

  5. How embarrassing :(

  6. Awe, kitties!!!

I always like the idea of keeping a boy and a girl, although I’ve typically had boys. I’ve always believed the boys are a bit more easy going and less tempermental than the ladies can be as it always seems to be the female cats that have odd behaviour issues, but this notion might be due to the fact that Casey is the only female kitty I’ve ever had. And she’s a wonderful kitty, just difficult.

But my kids are so jealous of your cat tree. They’ll be trying to talk us into one of those now!

And a few more names to consider if you like them: Emi, Echo, Ebbe and Eve.

  7. aww they are going to be adorable! I like all your names – I am no help! Adrian – I am seriously thinking about Daschunds too.. but I won’t buy pure breds unless they are somehow at the RSPCA shelter which I am sure is pretty unlikely ;)

  8. I vote for Hopscotch and Peppermint :)

  9. Oh I also think its great your getting kittens and as a pair too :) They get along so well when they arrive together. Very cute too.

  10. Lucky you! They look beautiful. A blast from the past-misty and smudge? How about Eugenia and euphoria? What fun you will all have.

  11. two kitties! how exciting! :)

i like pepper & mint and socks & mittens — of course, anything to do with food and being warm and cozy.

  12. Not really a pet person although I adore cats – I prefer to see them roam free in the wild. When we did have a cat years ago, holidays were a tricky thing and arranging good catcarers so bear that in mind.

I would go with “Cat and Cattier”, I’m not a cutesy name person as cats are cute enough themselves. Maybe it’s a Breakfast at Tiff’s thing, who knows? As per the other poster’s suggestion, animal shelters are filled with kittens who have been abandoned and they have all been checked over by vets, etc in case the trip to the breeder isn’t up to scratch.

  13. Thanks for dropping by my blog!

The alternative medicine book’s name is “Trick or Treatment” Alternative medicine on trial by Simon Singh and Edzard Ernst. Hope you will like it!

So you guys live in Leuven? I am in Brussels and I also have two cats 0-) although mine are big and fat 0-)

  14. Thank-you all for the name suggestions. It is a big decision. We have just moved to Brussels from Leuven. I have previously always had rescue cats, but we were really looking for a specific type of cat this time.
