There are no official Apple Stores in Belgium, so we are stuck with resellers who haven’t updated their signs for quite a few years.

The first Apple store in France is opening at the Louvre this Saturday. I am tempted to pop over for there for the opening, but it seems a bit silly to buy last-minute international train tickets for the opening of a shop. The evils of capitalism and brand loyalty, etc.

  1. Related: I was surprised to notice Apple Belgium only offers 1y of warranty on new equipment bought in Belgium (in French: http://www.apple.com/befr/support/products/proplan.html ) while the legal guarantee for retail products covers two years.

But I must agree that some local resellers are not up to the quality level one might expect: I did a quick search for resellers in Brussels on apple.be and they even listed Carrefour (…)

  2. Yes, apple tries to get out of the compulsory 2 year warranty in Belgium. When my macbook broke down 14 months after purchase they refused to repair it, I had to come back 3 times to complain (even had to show them the text of the law which I had printed out online) before they finally caved in and repaired it for free. No other computer maker does that in belgium, apple is a great company but they’re not above the law.

I know that store from the picture! Bought my macbook pro there, love that old-school apple logo though! I think it fits well with the industrial neighbourhood in the vaartkom in Leuven.

Btw, there are already “official apple stores” (not apple premium resellers) but they are part of larger mediamarkt/saturn stores so it’s not the same, there’s one in nieuwstraat brussels and two in antwerp.

Is there any advantage of going to an apple store over an apple reseller? Appart from the design in some apple stores (like 5th avenue NYC)

  3. I think we have a Mac store here in Gent actually, but I could be wrong. They definitely have all the Apple electronics there though. I think it’s called Switch.
