Congrats on reaching the 3 year milestone. Time just flies doesn’t it?! Your life there sounds so exciting and it’s such a wonderful experience for you all. I’m sure as Hayden gets older, you’ll learn the language together. He might be your best study buddy!

You should hang out in the European District more often, everyone speaks english here, my local Delhaize has “OPEN ON SUNDAY” written on its walls in huge letters without anything written in French or Dutch. Besides, I think your French has improved dramatically! It’s not easy to learn a language, I had 10 years of French 5 hours a week and speak French at work 90% of the time and often still struggle to say something very basic. Oh and I hated every second of learning it :p but I’m glad I was forced to do that, don’t give up, you’re doing great

Oh and if you ever need help with forms or administration, just call me straight away. I’m a brussels civil servant, forms are my natural habitat and I know people in most departments on both local, regional and national levels.

I was going to advise you to try enrolling Hayden in a Dutch speaking school. From what I understand they’re better schools anyway.
And some people take to languages quickly, some just don’t. My husband also has a highly scientific/mathematical mind and while he is multilingual, from what he tells me he struggled to get that way.
I couldn’t tell you the difference between a cosign and a tangent, but I pick up basic language skills pretty quickly.
To each his own skill set, and I’m sure the longer you live here the easier it’ll get, especially with Hayden around. You can watch language videos with him.

Thanks Judi. If Hayden wants to get all his nutrients from milk for the moment, that’s fine with me. As far as I’m concerned, food can be just for fun until he’s one.

At least the Flemish are able and willing to switch to English. That’s not an option for communicating with most of my neighbours.

Oh … you probably just need to hang out with me for a bit. I stupidly learned how to write the language first … well Nederlands, and so, now I ‘see’ the spoken word and apply my truly delightful New Zealand vowel pronunciation to the vowels.

Sigh … they just switch to English, over here in Anvers, or they say, ‘Wablief????’
I believe I am more than capable of making you feel completely superb in French.

Soooooo cute,

Lovely to see snippets of your family, all the best. I also agree with the last comment. My three loved fruit, but unfortunately once I started on fruit they pushed away the vegies, wanting the sweeter fruit purees, so I then tried mixing the vegies with a new fruit. All kids are different though, it is such a fun age, enjoy.

Also, have you tried fruit? There was a month, I believe his fifth month, where T really had a hate going for veggies but he ate fruit as fast as we could shovel it in. Maybe Hayden will take to fruit puree easier than veggies?
