Oh ... I slipped in under the bar, applying before the language law came into being. Although, I did the whole, living here for 5 years, having married a Belgian somewhere along the way. The police visit was hilarious because she asked about my photographs and I thought she must have known I was a photographer ... all my framed works were down and she had to explain ... the photos of me and Gert. No wardrobes were searched though. She really wanted to go to NZ and couldn't comprehend anyone moving to Belgium ... it had to be genuine love :-)

Clearwire looks pretty dodgy. I went to their website to figure out if they were satellite or some type of municipal wireless (the latter, turns out), and if they were related to the municipal wireless I helped install on the roof of our school building (no), and apparently they're pretending OFDM is a security standard, and that the fact that they're using licensed frequencies makes eavesdropping harder. I hope that's just an idiot copywriter, and not their full security policy. Next time I'm in Leuven I'm going listen in on their "licensed frequencies" and see if I can make sense of any traffic.

I use Telenet as well. People like to complain about prices and download limits, but the main ISPs are pretty solid most of the time, especially if you're used to North America. There are some smaller resellers for Telenet and Belgacom who offer unlimited monthly download or lower prices, but they have a tendency to get shut down for not paying their bills or tax fraud or things like that.

So glad you enjoyed the Pirates attraction. it was "closed for my future enjoyment" last time I visited. Hope to go on it this Summer though when I hop on the Eurostar from London in June.
Booked with Short Breaks as planned the timing to co-incide with the new Next Gen promo what with new Toy Story attraction launching soon. When I went last I didn't have an earlybird entry so failed to ever get on the Thunder Mountain ride - the busiest ride of them all. I queued for over 1hr for Space Mountain. I did enjoy my time there - just wish that the rooms had a fridge (I need to travel with medication and no fridge in the room is critical for me). Alison, the park is in no way as big as the FL one, and at times over-run with rude children pushing toddlers out the way for character photos and autographs. I just elbowed them all out the way when they tried to stampede my 2 yr old. I don't think they teach the Spanish children manners at school.

Going through the wardrobe is quite normal in many European countries, though I doubt it's effectiveness in finding fake marriages. I know a Dutch/Israeli couple that moved to Belgium to get married because it was so difficult to do so in Holland. Congratulations! I would die to get something like that. I never know what is going to happen at the end of the year cause I always have to renew the damn thing every year, that's why I haven't even gotten around to buying a car.

Nooo I love the accent circonflexe!!
Here's a little circonflexe fun fact. The circonflex often indicates places where the letter "s" has been dropped. You often still see the "s" in othe languages like English or Dutch. Of course this isn't always the case because sometimes the workd have changed in english/dutch as well and only linguists still know the original word

In your example: Île --> Isle, but also Hôpital --> Hospital etc

There's a council that decides about dutch spelling as well, they make such marvelous decisions like "Names of plants get an "n" in the middle unless that plant name has an animal name included in the plant name" And "Zonneschijn" (sunshine) doesn't get a middle "n" but sterrenschijn (starshine) does, because there's only one sun and there are many stars, however maneschijn (moonshine) doesn't get a middle "n" either even though many moons exist but it is understood that we always talk about the earth's moon when talking about moonshine.
Also they changed the spelling from "insekt" to "insect" for no particular reason

It's pure madness :-)

It's funny how you feel bad for huge corporations like Disney or for people who make fortunes like Britney Spears :-)

I can't help you on the Indian restaurant but I know a very nice place for cupcakes around here.

On the linguistic side, I enjoyed the time in France where I was not able to understand other people's conversation in the tram, bus, cinema whatever. There is a lot of stuff you really don't want to know.
Once you get to know the language better, you can't avoid it though...
