Thanksgiving in Brussels II

This weekend we celebrated a mini Thanksgiving with some of our North American, German, and Belgian friends. It doesn’t make much sense in Australia when November is in Spring, but in the Northern hemisphere I find it a delicious way to mark the arrival of autumn.

Out little oven was packed full with roast vegetables, turkey breast, and stuffing, with the Thermomix busy whipping up some mashed yams, and gravy bubbling on the stove. I’d previously made up some fantastic cranberry sauce in the Thermomix, and a cold green bean salad and bread completed the spread. I was really happy with the mashed yams, turkey and the cranberry sauce, but I don’t think the stuffing was quite up to standard. I blame Paula Deen.

We drank apple cider and zoo beer (made on the grounds of Paira Daisa zoo). At first, Hayden was confused between the beer and his milk, but by the end of the evening his was firmly stating “niet melk, bier”.

One of our guests made a pumpkin pie from scratch, which was accompanied by vanilla and speculoos ice-cream.
